Welcome back to school!

It is with professional confidence and personal pleasure that I serve the Laredo Community as the Principal of Don Jose Gallego Elementary School, where new challenging opportunities and engaging learning experiences await our students!!

I am very excited about the school year that is about to begin. Whether you will be dropping your child off at DJ Gallego Elementary for the first day of Pre-K or you are a veteran parent of a school-aged child, the start of a new school year is always a time filled with excitement. Our focus remains to provide each child with new challenges that will result in a rewarding school experience. We want your child to be both happy and successful at DJ Gallego.

DJ Gallego is a school where students are supported and encouraged to grow in all areas- academically, socially and emotionally. I am fortunate to be a part of this high-quality learning community, and I speak on behalf of the entire staff when I say we are excited to have each of you as part of our school community. It takes all of us to help each and every child reach his/her potential, and we look forward to sharing in your child's learning experiences this school year.

The staff of DJ Gallego works collaboratively to design a learning plan to meet the diverse and individual needs of each student. A variety of strategies and techniques will be used in the instruction of all content areas throughout the school year. The administration and staff work cooperatively and openly with parents and guardians to provide clear lines of communication, providing satisfying customer service; always with a smile. Together parents, faculty and staff members will work to ensure a cohesive plan to providing an educational journey which is rich and challenging for all of our students.

Summer break has flown by, and we have been making preparations for the coming school year. Those preparations have included the hiring of new staff members:

· Carla Pineda, 5th Grade Math Teacher

· Norma Lighter, School Counselor

We welcome these professional individuals to our Liger family. We are excited and believe that their contribution to our staff will bring a positive energy to our campus.

Also, we have made changes to our staff in terms of grade assignments, all of which were made to ensure that your child has the best quality learning experience. As always, we wish our teachers and students much success!!

I am happy to report that DJ Gallego Elementary School increased the Attendance rate from last year!! We are excited that our students enjoy coming to school and love to learn!! Because we want to work with you to continue this attendance record, the following new initiative will begin starting the week of August 21, 2017.

Although we expect ALL students to arrive at school on time, any student who arrives after 7:45 will be considered tardy and parents will be required to accompany their child into the building to sign the tardy log sheet at the front desk.

Finally, you are reminded of an opportunity to meet your child’s teacher and to drop off school supplies on Thursday, August 17 from 4:00-5:00 p.m. This “Meet the Teacher Night” is intended as a time to visit briefly with your child’s teacher(s), and not for formal classroom conferences.

Following this classroom visit, an informational session will take place in the gym/cafeteria from 5:00-6:00 p.m. Gym (1st-5th grade) and Cafeteria (Pre-K – Kinder)

Our teachers and staff have been working hard to prepare for the upcoming school year.

We look forward to seeing you soon!
