
LISD to host Specialty Schools Open House
Laredo Independent School District will be hosting its annual Specialty Schools Open House at each campus for eighth grade students and their parents on Saturday, November 11, from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. The seven specialty schools will open their doors to the community and invite eighth grade students to tour the campus and apply for admission for the 2024-2025 school year.
The event is aimed at recruiting students who may be interested in attending any LISD specialty school for the 2024-2025 school year. The seven early college high schools and magnet school include the Business, Industry, and Public Services Early College Academy at Nixon High School, Sabas Perez Early College High School at Cigarroa High School, Dr. Dennis D. Cantu Health Science Early College High School at Martin High School, Hector J. Garcia Early College High School located at Texas A&M International University, Pathways to Technology Early College High School at Cigarroa High School, Agriculture, Food, & Natural Resources (AFNR) P-TECH at Martin High School, and the Vidal M. Trevino School of Communications and Fine Arts Magnet School.


Students in Mrs. Madriaga's Science class worked on Marble Launcher Lab Activity, where the students measured the range of a marble launched at different angles.

GECHS will be hosting an Open House this Saturday, November 11, 2023. Guests may visit anytime between 9:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m. please share invitation with anyone you know who may be interested.


Laredo University Night was held at TAMIU on Nov. 7. Students were able to meet with representatives from different colleges and universities.

Parents, there will be a Jostens Informational Meeting on Thursday, Nov. 9, 2023 at 5:30 PM. Jostens representative will provide information on caps/gowns, other graduation merchandise, and answer questions. #Classof2023


Do you know Raul Pena?
GECHS Campus Spotlight: Raul Pena is the secretary for GECHS. He has been with LISD and GECHS for about 10 + years as a security guard until this year. As a security guard, Mr. Pena always gave his best every day, and now as the secretary, he continues to ensure that GECHS thrives. He graduated from J.B. Alexander High School, has his Associate's in Criminal Justice, and is currently working on his bachelor's. Mr. Pena says, "I enjoy working at GECHS for many reasons, but one important is that we are a small faculty/staff that is more like family!" #PhoenixPride

Hector J. Garcia Early College High School hosted the LISD 8th grade counselors for a showcase and a student-led campus tour. The counselors were provided with comprehensive information on the wide range of opportunities offered at GECHS and TAMIU.
